How can I have the day of the week and the date in the title cell?

e.g. "Mon 3 May 2010...Tue 4 May 2010...etc.

I can do it manually through the properties; however for a course that spans 10 months, it gets tedious and very time consuming typing in the day of the week with the dates.

You do not have to enter actual dates in the resources' list of Days to schedule activities by dates. Instead, when you open the days popup list above the schedule in the top left corner of the screen, you can select the "Dates" tab at the bottom of that list. A calendar will be shown in which you can select the date. The title of the column in the schedule will have both the weekday name and the date.
