Interactive Timetabling

To enter the timetabling workspace, choose Timetable from the Start menu at the top. The window that will open is divided to two main parts: 2/3 of the screen is dedicated to the timetable grid, and 1/3 to utility windows, which are shown to the right of the grid.

Timetable Grid

At the top of the grid appears the Navigation Bar, which is used to browse the timetable and the different views of the timetable.

At the bottom, there are two selection controls: one to switch between Constraints, Timetable and Reports views; and one to switch between the Interactive and Automatic modes (in Constraints and Timetable views) and to switch between the Detailed and Statistic report modes (in Reports view).

  • Week - shows the timetable of the whole week (days x lessons) for the selected object type. For example, if Teacher is selected, all teachers' timetables are shown on one screen. The X axis will contain the teachers' names and the Y axis the days and the lessons.

  • Day - shows the timetable of one day for the selected object type. For example, if Group is selected, all groups' timetables are shown on one screen for the selected day. The X axis will contain the groups' names and the Y axis the lessons of the day.

  • Personal - shows a personal weekly timetable of the selected object. For example, if Room is selected, shows the timetable of the selected room for the whole week. The X axis contains the day names, and the Y axis the lessons.

Utility Windows

Utility Windows appear to the right of the timetable grid. There are four such windows:
  1. Activities window - contains the list of activities and sets that you had entered in the Database, and displays the scheduled quantity for each activity, together with important information about the number of free cells left to schedule the activity without causing a conflict in the timetable (see below).

  2. Mini Timetable window - shows a personal timetable. This window reacts to the selection in the main timetable grid: if you select a cell in a group's timetable, the "mini" timetable will contain the personal timetable of the teacher scheduled in that cell; and the opposite - selecting a cell in a teacher's timetable will show the scheduled group's timetable.

  3. Who is Free? window - shows a list of free, blocked and scheduled objects at the selected time slot in the grid.

  4. Where is Free? window - shows the time slots into which the selected cell in the grid can be moved without causing a conflict, and the reason for the conflict in case it does cause one.

Scheduling Activities

Scheduling activities interactively is a matter of a simple Drag & Drop. To schedule an activity at a desired cell, all you need to do is drag it from the Activities window into the cell.
